Mining Notes.
•\ PUHIPUHI. The D. N. Shaw Syndicate which brought out the old British Company has sold out to the Hampton Plains Goldmining Corporation, of London. This Company has been established for some time, and is operating mining properties in Nevada, U.S., and in Western Australia. It is, we understand, a strong company, and is capable of giving Puhipiihi a fair trial: MrD N. Shaw has joined the directory of the company, and will give the Puhipuhi property his special. atten - tion.
Mr E. H Hardy, of Coromandel, is the Colonial representative of the Company, and supervises the mine works and surveys. He intends to take up his residence in Whangarei when he can get a house. Mr H. R. Holman has been appointed mine manager. The treatment of the ore is to be left in the hands of the Rev. Joseph Campbell, whose hyperphoric process has been successfully -tested at Te Aroha. Mr Campbell "visited the Puhipuhi battery last week to see what alterations will bo required, and he proceeds to England by the outgoing mail on business in connection with his own company, and while in London he will explain to the directors of the Hampton Plains Corporation the necessary alterations and additions required to be made at Puhipuhi so as to work the hyperphoric process. These alterations are to be taken in hand soon after Mr Campbell reaches London. At present the operations at the mine are confined to putting in a low level to cut the Waipu lode, at about 140 feet below the old level, and the continuation of the bridge level to discover the run of the original or first shoot of silver. Satisfactory assays have been obtained from the ore now available, and Mr Hardy, who visited the mine last week, speaks of the future with considerable hope.
