Te Aroha Town Board
A special meeting of tho Board was held on Wednesday night, when there were present: Corns Gavin (in the chair), Gallagher, Knock, Bygrave, and Mackie.
The meeting was called for the purpose of hearing Mr Pavitt’s report on what was best to be done re confining the creek, to a defined channel, with, estimates for same, and to open tenders for the formation of Rewi-street.
Before opening the tenders, the Chairman, in accordance with a decision at a previous meeting, suggested that the Works Committee be included with the Engineer in the final passing of the work. This was agreed to by the members, and the were added to, in the direction indicated. The Board then proceeded to deal with the tenders, the following being received W. Hetheringtoa £219 ; R. Parr £175; Jas Orr £l6l • Shine and McGuire £l3B. The Engineer’s estimate was .£l6O, and the average of the tenders received was £177.
On the motion of Com Gallagher -the tender of 'Messrs Shine and McGuire was accepted. The Board then proceeded to deal with the plans for confiningthe creek. Mr Pavitt, the Engineer, was in attendance, and explained the mode in which it was intended to carry out the work. After consideration, it was decided to forward the plan to Wellington, with an application to the Government for a special grant in aid of the work. All the meoiber&ivere agreed on the urgency of the-work, and although it is not anticipated that there will be any difficulty in getting help from the Government, the Board will, as soon as the plan is returned from Wellington, push on with the work as far as Mr Purchas’ section.
