A gentleman recently from South Africa, who was stopping at the Family Hotel at the beginning of last week, met with an awkward experience on Wednesday. On his arrival at Paeroa he missed a ten pound note from his porte monnaie. As he had had a great scramble up trig on the previous day he made sure he had lost it on that occasion, though upon what .grounds it is difficult to conceive. Returning to Te Aroha he straightway scaled the giddy steep and spent the better part of a day seeking the vanished note. In vain. Meanwhile Mr Devonport, who is staying at tbe+Family Hotel, picked up a note, from the’coffee room floor and without looking at it closely, handed it over to Mrs O’Meagher until a claimant turned up. Great was our. South African friend’s delight when on calling at the hotel to mention the loss of his £lO note, Mrs O’Meaghei was able to restore it to him. The note Mr Duder picked up turned but to be one for ten pounds.
