Football Notes .

(By Drop Kick.) Te Aroha v. Thames School of Mines. The long-looked-for match between the above teams took place last Saturday in Lipsey’s paddock. During the morning the weather was anything but promising, the rain coming down in torrents and -a regular Te Aroha gale was fanning itself ,Up. Consequently the hopes of our -footbalLei s fell below zero, and it wafc.-t ikon as a foregone conclusion that it would bo out of the question for any team to travel any distance in such weather. However*, the Thames boys, were not so easily frightened, and true to their pledge, determined to make the journey,‘come what might. The team arrived in Te Aroha in one of Ricketc’s brakes about 2 o‘c'ock, Mr A Crowther, a whip of no mean order, being in charge of the ribbons, The following are a list of. the players for School or Mines : Fall-back, Meehan; threequarters, Hall, Smith, McGregor ; five-eight, Wigmore (capt); half-back, Houghton ; forwards,' White, Francis, Deeble, Duncan, ■ Rides, Hammond, Harris, Quick and Morrin. The kick-off took place shortly after 3 o’clock, a slight shower of rain coming down at intervals throughout the game, which made the ground and ball somewhat slippery. . From start to finish the game was one severe struggle, both sides doing their best to score. The School"team, if anything, were weak in the forwards; while their passing at times, with a greasy ball, was really good. No doubt bad the weather been fine, our boys would have been taxed to their utmost to prevent the visitors from scoring, for there is no denying the fact that the passing game will come out best. The Te Aroha-team, I am pleased to say, played better on Saturday than ever I have seen them, the forwards, especially, putting in some grand work. J. C jrnes was the only one successful in crossing the line, tlie kick at goal w ; s 'entrusted to Beil, who failed to add to ihe major poiats, the game ending : Te Aroha 3 ; School of Mines nil. <

'Mr H. F. Gotz acted as referee, Messrs Rennick and" Dunlop had charge of the lines. In the .evening the visitors were entertained at the Family Ho . 1, whore a very pleasant social evening was spent. The visitors returned home on Sunday morning.
