Manawaru.

-(From our own Correspondent.)

There is a movement on foot in the neighbourhood to establish a mutual improvement society, to be held in the school-house at Te Aroha West once a fortnight; and as the Bey 8 Griffith gave out ; on -Sunday that the Bible Claes would take- place at the usual time at Te Aroha West, it is to be hoped that all iuterested in the movement will, if possible, attend so that matters can,be talked over, .after class .meeting, and a committee formed for its management. As winter is fast approaching it is to he hoped that both old and young will do their utmost to make it a great success and spend many a pleasant eveuing during the coming winter. Allow me to thank Mr Morrison for, his letter re the removal of the school , from Te Aroha .West. Mr Morrison has set forward in a very able and impartial, manner the exact state of affairs, but as some of your readers, may have the impression that it is the wish of the inhabitants of Manawaru to remove the school, allow me to point out that the most popular and influential gentleman in Manawaru drew up the petition, and a man in the same place was the first to sign it, along with nearly- every other householder in Manawaru. •

One would scarcely credit it that in spite of all the rain that has fallen fire is still smouldering in the swamps, and smoke can still be seen issuing from the. ground;' particularly along tho road in front of Mr Mikklasen’a.
