Piako County Council.
The monthly meeting of the Council was he] dat Morrins ville on Wednesday, #hen there were present : Crs Ohepmell (in the chair),/ Harrison, Hunt, Aitken, (Farmer, Gavin, Herries and McOaw.
Dog Registration. —-It having been reported that certain parties had not yet registered their dogs, the Council decided that unless all fees were paid to the/Registrars at once, informations Will be laid.
Licensing Expenses. The Clerk Tauranga County Council requested payment of £ll Os 4d, being proportion of expenses of Bay of Plenty Licensing Committee for year ending 3lst March, 1833,. and £ls Is 4d being proportion of cost of election of Licensing Committee for same district. I'he Council being of opinion that the total cost was somewhat excessive, it • was decided to- ask for details of the expenditure. / ! Overdraft —The Clerk reported that the overdraft at the Bank at present amounted to £4lB 16s Id.
Slaughterhouse at Waitoa. The application of John Walls for a slaughterhouse license in this district* was adjourned from last meeting in order to allow ef report on objections raised by Mr N. A. Larney. Walls notified Council that he had now severed his connection with the district, and had let the place to Mrs Warren., Council decided to refuse Walls” application •: 1 Gordon-Waharoa Road,—The Gordon Settlement Association on Council’s recommendation, wrote to various bodies asking for assistance in maintenance of this road. Replies were received as follows : from Assets Realisation Board offering £10; from Railway Department stating that the matter was under consideration ; from
the Matamata Road Board offering £lO on condition that the G wernment gave £ for £, and that the Piako Council would undertake the spending of all the money. The Council decided to inform the Matamata Road Board that the road ' bad now been duly formed, and that they (the Board) must now Undertake its maintenance. Katikati Track.—Oa the motion of Or Herries, it was decided to request Tauranga County Council to have the scrub cleaned off this track.
McLeod’s Con traet.r-A lengthy discussion took place as to whether a fine for .overtime should be enforced in this case, the general opinion being that owing to the inconvenience and delay, experienced by McLeod and the satisfactory nature of his work, no fine should be inflicted. It was ultimately decided that; a nominal fine of Is be inflicted, an amendment that the fine be increased to IQs being put to the meeting and lost. It was also decided not to admit any claim for extras. Waiorongomai Tramway. —An application was received from Rev J. Campbell asking for permission to take 50 tons of quartz over ; the tram, and undertaking to. make good any damage done in usage. This permission was granted, details of terms to bo arranged by Crs Gavin and Herries to; whom Council remitted all matters in connection with the working of the tramway. Foremen’s Reports. G. Mahood reported that the bridges on the Rotorua-Tirau Road were dangerous for heavy .traffic, the stringers of Orakau bridge being completely rotten. On the Cambridge - Napier road between Tirau , and Gorton, and on the Cambridge-Tauranga road be ; tween. Taotaoroa Hill, and Norris’ corner, the ti-tree and scrub was almost blocking the road, and would require cutting down. Council authorised the employment of an extra man for this work, and instructed foreman"to re pair bridges as suggested by him. They also decided to advertise the bridges in question as being unsafe for heavy traffic. GeV Watt am reported that a few loads of gravel would be required for either side of the new bridge at Walker’s, Wairakau. He had inspected the drain i at Borrie's, and thought the cleaning ; should be done as requested by Borrie as it would benefit the County Road. Council decided that these works should be done.
Tenders. The following tenders were received for grading 2 cuttings, lifting and re setting set of pipes and 5 chains formation tear Gage Brown’s at Shaftesbury. James Orr £6 ; D. McCarthy £sl Os ; McCarthy’s tender was accepted. Painting-Piako Bridge.—Cr Gavin’s action -in accepting H; 1 Gal agher’s tender to do this work for LIT was confirmed. Accounts as read were passed for payment. t -
