Man Found Dead.
Paeroa, Last Night. William Murray, an old man 65years of age, was' found dead on Saturday morning near Waipahu Id creek, six miles from Marototo. Murray was a gumdigger living in a tent alone, and about/the 20th April some Maoris and other diggers noticed thsfc Murray’s tent was unoccupied. Thoy .searched the place, but could find no - ■ trace-of the missing man, and last Friday informed the police at Paeroa. Sergt." Brennan sent Constable Connor on Saturday morning to assist in' the the search, and the party found the old man dead lying crushed under the stump'-of a large tree he had evidently been digging round the roots, when the tree slipped down jammin ; him under it and against another tree, his. spade and spear were alongside. The constable found it necessary 'to dig deceased out from under the tree. An inquest on the body was held yesterday at the camp before Mr Forrest, coroner, when a verdict was returned to the effect that ‘ Deceased was found dead.’ Deceased was a single man-
