Ox Thursday afternoon the competition for the • Knock Belt ’ took place at the To Aroha rifle range, resulting, after a close and exeifcng contest, in a win by two poiuta for B©rgt; Salmon. Private Hirst, who led up to the last round, being second with 74. This is the Sergt’s third win. T.R.V. company drill in SmardonY Hall on Thursday next,.2Bthiust. Says the * Advertiser *A movement is on foot to form another rifle corps at the Thames, Mr Shepherd, of Shepherd and Booth, being the originator. The company is to be called the Native Rifles, and is to be composed qt New Zealand born men. The uniform will consist -of kharkee doth, with maroon facing* and yellow braid, slouch hat, with maroon pugaree and plume of black fea chora.
