Domain Board.
The monthly meeting of the Domain Board kok place last night, when there were present: Corns Gavin (in the chair), Knock, Bygrave, Mackay and Gallagher. Subsidy to Doctor.—The Board having written to the Minister of Lands, asking that this money be forwarded, and also to Mr Cadman requesting him to do what he could, to facilitate the matter, a reply was received from the latter gentleman to the; effect that he had seen, the Mmister. of Lands and had arranged the matter. Gift of Books.—Mr E Y. Cox, of Shaftesbury, having donated some books to the library, it was decided, to accept same, and to write thanking Mr Cox for his kindness.
Caretaker’s Holidays. -J. Stanley wrote asking that his week’s holidays be granted during the Easter week. Which the Board agreed to do. After a short discussion it was agreed not to stop Stanley's, wages during his holiday. / Tennis Material.—The necessity for procuring additional material was discussed, and it was deckled to write the wholesale people in Auckland for a supply of rackets and balls. Alteration in Hours, —This matter, which had been deferred from last meeting was dealt with. The Board were unanimous in their decision to adhere to their former resolutions, providing for the shortened hours All , the members were men who had large interests]in the place, and were not likely to do anything which would prejudice the town in any way.. The matt r was not done humedly, duo consideration had been given to the matter in all its bearings, not the least important, of which was the cleaning of the baths. It was impossible for the attendants to do this efficiently when they had to wait till 10.30 or later, before they could commence operations. The Chairman stated that so far as he could learn, not a single complaint had been made about the change, and however he might feel inclined to give way in the matter of altering the night arrangement, he was determined to adhere to the closing on Sunday. If occasion demanded, he was prepared to arrange for working the Domain with a night shift, and keep the baths open all night, but as ;long as he held a seat on the Board, he would never consent to keep open the baths on Sunday forenoons during church hours. Com Gallagher spoke lin a similar strain, and the other members concurring, it was unanimously resolved to reply to the promoters of , the petition to that effect. It was also 'decided- to alter the 'posters so as to read that the 1 Ticket Office ’ would be closed at 9 o’clock every night, and from 10 am till 1.30 p.m on Sundays. Minor Matters.—Com Knock was authorised to arrange for renewing the matting in Domain office where {necessary ; procuring disinfectants for the various W C.’s;. and painting the front gate and fence. Also- to arrange for the Band to play in the Domain on ■Good Friday.
Towels.—lt was decided to write Mr Oadman, stating, that it was intended to order about LoO worth, of towels from the manufacturers at Home, and asking if the Agent General’s Department could he made use of for this purpose, the Board paying all expenses. , Finance.—The Olerk submitted the following statement of the Board’s financial position :—Balance brought forward, £162 5s 8d; receipts: baths LB6 14s 1 Qd, towels Ll 3 3s 1 Od, library Ll lls, tennis 19s, LIO2 8s 8d ; total, L 264 148 4d; less accounts owing, L 55 19s Bd, leaving a balance of L2lB 15s Bd. Accounts amounting to L 55 19s 8d were passed for payment. 1
