Manawaru.
(From our own Correspondent.)
Plenty of rain now, but in spite of the heavy down-pour the swamp fires are still burning, and nothing but the ground being thorougnly soaked- with water will put the tires out as the timber that is underground will still burn when the top is saturated with rain. The damp has made the mushrooms spring up abundantly, and hero in Manawaru they are so fine and large that many of them will weigh a pound. [We would not rniud sampling a few. —Ed.]: Building is still going on here, several new houses are in couvse of erection, but I think Mr P. O’Grady with his new house will beat them all.
A new family is expected to take up their residence next week on Victoria Road, Jubilee Block, on part, of Mr Leeman’s old farm.
