Sir, — In your issue of the Bth inst., a letter appears over the signature of ‘Acorn-Setter.’ lam at a loss to> decide whether I ought to feel flattered or annoyed at the freedom taken with the name of your humble servant. Iu any case I decidedly deoline to stand sponsor to Mr McLeod’s letter. I have not the faintest idea as to who- * Acorn-Setter’ is. He may, for aught I know, be • Stemey Creek"’ himself, but more likely he is a curled darling, cultivating an incipient moustache, fiercely twisted up at the corners—a ‘ hiresistible duck ’ entirely.. Or is he one of our gallant volunteers, greedily thirsting for an opportunity to have a slap at one or other of the enemies of ‘ the grandest isle that ever waß fenced by foam.’' He will be heard of yet, as a full blown oak, depend on it j altho’ at present his literary stock in trade seems to consist of only intermittent spurts of blatant flippancy* with a decided turn for sneering. C m he deny that the gentleman he is? championing, now confessedly identified with ‘ Stoney Creek,’ has since his advent into the Settlement been>strcnuously—it might be said sycliophanticaily—trying to whitewash the lage of Mac’s epistle ? With the proverbial result that invariably follows the stirring up of dirty water.. For the, sake of uniformity, not concealment, I once more subscribe myself, Senex.
