Dr Open.
MENTAL ANGUISH.
The ‘Hawaiian Gazette 1 of Hono„ lulu of February 4th has the following ; —‘It■ is probably a good thing'that the lodgers in a certaia house near did not know the cause for the groans and cries, that came from one of' the rooms during the nights of the 6th to. the tlth of last month. If they had, it is nbt !probable they would have remained there long* Not even the landlady knew the cause. While- DetectiveMaddern was in town yesterday hemade it a point to. find out Dr ArthurHerbert Open, whereabouts while in the city, and, through a descriptions given him by one- of the people livingat the time in the boarding house mentioned above, proved beyond a doubt, that the man was none other than theman who is chaiged with the murder* of Miss McCallum of Auckland He* would walk up and down his room un-. til late- at night and sometimes far into.. .the morning, groaning, and ultering- ‘ exclamations of fright. Instead of sleeping quietly at night ho would start up and cry out in a nightmare on . begin, pacing up, and down the room once more.’*
