Town Board.

The monthly meeting- of the Town Board was held last night in the Board room, when there were present : : Commissianei'B Gavin (in the chair), Knock, By grave, Gallagher, and Mackay,

Eire Bell.— -The Board having been advisod by a practical man, offered Morrin and Co. £S for the bell they have for disposal at the Qnehunga Iron Works. Messrs Morrin and Co. replied declining the offer, as they would not dispose of it for less than L 5. •

House, in' Pound,. —Com Gall agh er reported that this house narrowly escaped being on fire on Show day. Ho tbought this was due to the defective state of the fire-place and ohimuov. The Board decided that Mr Smardon, lessee of ,the Pound, be informed that unless he is prepared to put in a new chimney, the present one will be re-* moved and the entrance boarded up. The Board further decided to insure the building. . , Advertising. —The Manager of the “ Te Aroha News,’ wrote asking that the Board’s advertising be submitted to tender at per inch, for twelve months. The Board agreed to do this, and both local papers will consequently be invite d to send in a prion, Worrs. —The Chairman, as Works Committee* reported on the various works in progress The contractor for the bridge at Bewi-street had been delayed through some mistake in the specifications or plans* but he was now making satisfactory progress. The Board decided‘to give a progress pay- ' menfc of L3O on this job, and in the mat er of Carmichael’s contract for metal breaking, they decided, to pay for 50 yards ' The Board also- agreed to purchase some met il broke n by J. Wilson, at current contract rate.

Band.—-Mr Sherlqck, secretary of the Band, wrote stating that the members wished the Board to act as Trustees for the instruments* and also that a clause be inserted in the Deed of Trust that the instruments shall not be U'B'l for any private purposes.— The B ard decided to defer coming to. a decision on this matter till next meeting, in order that the original agreement may be found in the interval. Finances —-Thp Clerk submitted the following statement of the Board’s financial position Or. balance in Bank, £l4O 9.8 3d ; less accounts to be passed for payment* £6l 10s. Total £7B 19s 3d. Accounts. —The following accounts were passed for paymentj—R. Michael, £8 8s; Warden’s Court, £3 ; Mclndoe and Hill, £1 12s fid; J. N. Batten, 5s ; J. Jackson, £3O ; Carmichael £8 2s 6d ; A Jackson, £2 2s jD. Redwood, 14s; L Wright, £2 2s.
