Criminal Sessions .

At the criminal sessions, Wellington, Judge Ed wardsinaddressing the Grand Jury, remarked that there was a large number of cases. There, was a curious charge of forgery and perjury against one Amos Burr, who produced a receipt alleged to have been made in in 1872 bearing a stamp not issued till many years later. There were charges of stabbing, ’rape, criminal malpractice, and, lastly, the Silverstream murder. No bill was found against Elizabeth Stennet, charged with an an illegal offence. Two youths, Hugh O’Hagan and Thomas Woods, charged with rape at Palmerston North, were acquitted.
