For Men Who Have Lived in. Three Centuries.

A competition which, from its very nature, can only be arranged once in a, hundred years, has been originated in Italy under the auspices of the newspaper ‘ Don Ohisciotti.’ A large sum of money is being raised for division among the men and women living on January Ist, 1901, who have lived inthree centuries. The recipient must thus he at least 100 years and twodays old. It is estimated that the* number of people throughout the* world who will thus have seen theeighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries will amount to some thousands. In Italy alone the number of' centenarians, at present, is between two and three hundred, and France boasts an equal number. It is significant of the healthier condition of modern fife that there are to-day fourtimes as many centenarians in Italy as; in the days of Vespasian.
