Mining Notes .

GREAT WESTERN.

The new Chilian mill (says the Herald) has been so far completed that the machinery has commenced running, and worked very satisfactorily. It was intended to have started permanent crushing operations Owing to the low pressure obtained by water, the motive power is being supplied by a gasoline, en gine. Tha mill, - whieh is really an-'experimental plant, is capable of treating about 60 tons per week*. The mine is now well opened up, and if the results pan out as anticipated, now that the mill is running, tire .industry at Waiorongorhni should receive a decided impetus. [This is hardly correct, as it is found the engine in question is not of sufficient h.p. to do the work required of it. Work has consequently been suspended.] ' AROHA SPECIAL.

It has been rumoured that a new lode has in the main tunnel of _f' Gold Mines (Limited ), ..but .such is not the case. The tunnel'is running along on the footwall of the big lode, and it is not expected that any new shoot of ore will be intersected until a considerable distance .more has been negotiated. The face of the tunnel is now in a distance of 1028 feet. Some distance back from the face a cut was mnde into the reef, and though there was about 30 feet of quartz showing, the ore was of low grade. The rock-drill has not been commenced running.yet owing to the small quantity of water coming in the race.
