The late Mr Sibley .
We take the following concerning the late Mr Henry Sibley, who died at Waihi on the Ist inst,* find was buried at Te Aroha in 'accordance with his latest wish, from Saturday’s Herald. Deceased belonged to the 70th Regiment, in which he was born. He commenced service at an early as bugler and band-boy. He served in the Indian Mutiny, and in 1863 came down from India with his regiment and served through the war. When his regiment was ordered Home he, with several other, took his discharge and remained in New Zealand, and settled in Te Awamutu, and subsequently joined Von Tempsky’s Rangers, and saw a good deal of active service. He was present at the disastrous fight in which his leader was killed, snd had on that occasion many hair-breadth escapes. He had on one occasion occupied a tent with ten others, and in the evening after a brush with the natives only two turned up-~Mr Richard Bell, of Te Rahu, and deceased. There were nine empty beds, which had been occupied by as many strapping young fellows the night before. After the fighting was over deceased returned to Te Awamutu and joined the Te Awamutu Cavalry as bandmaster. Mr Sibley wap a man of- a, lively disposition, sober, steady, and reliable. The immediate cause of death wa9 cancer in the neck, and he was in his 59th year. He leaves a widow, two sons, and six daughters, who are all grown up, ‘ '• : '•
