Lawn Tennis .

THE VISITORS FROM PAEROA On Saturday afternoon three representatives from the PaeroaLawa Tennis Club visited Te Aroha for the purpose of trying conclusions with our resident players. The Paeroa team consisted originally of Dr Forbes, Messrs Jackson, Dulston, and Connolly; but the Doctor was unable to be present. For Te Aroha Messrs Lewis, Smales, Farquharson and Oliver took the field, and a doughty quartette they proved,, beating their men in both the doubles land singles with comparative ease. A return match will be watched with interest. During the afternoon a teatable was set out on the lawn and a variety of good things dispensed by Mesdames Campbell, Gotz, Pavitt and Smith. The Domain was crowded and the games were followed throughout with keen and intelligent interest, some of’the play exhibited eliciting loud expressions of approval. Messrs Dulston, Lewis and Smales showed perhaps the best form. The following are the results : ..

Doubles—Dulston and Connolly, Paeroa v Lewis and Smales, Te Aroha.' 2 sets, won by 6 games to 1 and 6 to 2 by Te Aroha.

Connolly and Jackson, Paeroa v Farquharson and Oliver. Ist set, Paeroa defeated Te Aroha 6to 4. 2nd and 3rd sets were won. by Te Aroha by 6 to 4 and 6 to 2. Singles Lewis v Dulston, the first named won by 6 to 4 Smales v Connolly, Smales won by 6 to 4. Mr H. F. Gotz occupied the judge’s box, marking the games with commendable accuracy.
