THE EXPLANATION WANTED.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I have much pleasure In trying to give ‘ X.Y.Z. ’ the explanation for 'which he yearns, in your last issue, i ament the funds’ of the picnic held on New Year’s Day. The delay in submitting a statement arises from the fact that unfortunately, many of those who ;promised subscriptions have not yet paid them. If ‘ X.Y.Z. ’ will only watch your columns he will see in due time a report of a meeting of the Committee, and a statement of the finances showing the exact amount of the substantial credit balance, and the manner in which it has been disposed of. As regards the Jubilee picnic your correspondent is somewhat inaccurate in holding me responsible for the nonproduction of a balance-sheet. For an explanation of that I must refer him to Mr Snewin, who was secretary and treasurer on that occasion. I was only an ordinary member of the committee along with half-a-dozen other townspeople. Is it not odd that your correspondent should mention the Jubilee picnic—which took place nearly seven months ago—as a mere after thought, a sort of P.s. so to speak, and yet become furiously impatient because a statement in connection with one held hut a fortnight since, has not been submitted to the public ? I wonder if ‘ X.Y.Z ’s ’ indignation would be any the less, if I delayed submitting MY statement for seven months i J However, I hope I have now slaked his thirst for information. As he seems to be of an enquiring turn of mind, might I suggest that he should turn his attention to one or two more things about the town, about which, he might with advantage, ‘ want to know, you know,—l am, etc., „ , , ' ■ ’ * Wm. Hill. ■ Te Aroha, 15fch January, 1898.
