. Sydney, Dec. 2. The trial for conspiracy in the Dean case began to-day. Dean’s counsel pleaded his pardon as a bar, but this , was overruled, and in common with i the others a plea of not guilty was I entered. The question of admitting the depositions'in the preliminary case against Dean in order to show that Meagher failed to ask Smith the chemist the vital question was raised by counsel for the defence,'who contended that the evidence was immaterial. Judge Cohen' held that Meagher was perfectly right in, not asking the dangquestion, but he decided* however, to admit the depositions, because they must betaken in conjunction with facts'which came out later on in the cas'6,■ .... .
