[Own Correspondent.] THE CROPS. Owing to the continuous rains the growing crops are in a backward state. M any of the potatoes are quite ruined, the seed having rotted in the ground. Both the Tiamway level an 1 the Upper level at the Premier are being driven, ahead with all •possiblb speed, At the New Find the winze is now down about forty feet. The object of this work is tp thoroughly test thA ground at a leva! underneath where the fine run of gold was obtained. WELCOME. This claim ie owned and worked by Mr R. Burke, who is putting; in a drive by which he expects to pick Up the Loyalty reef. The drive is now in a distance of forty-five feet. The country through which it is now pas* sing is solid bluo - rock and is very hard. Good progress is being made with the work. Several parties have been out looking for quartz in, the. locality where the rich specimens were reported tb have been found, but so far without success. THE SCHOOL. The annual examination of the public school commenced on Thursday. It is expected that the children will give a good account of themselves under Inspector Goodwin.
