NOTES FROM VARIOUS GOLDFIELDS.
A RECoiiD in the way of - cables was put up last week at Coolgardie, when Mr A. A. Nauman sent a cablo'messago to England costing £1,150. ■ The New Red White .and Blue Consolidated Company at Bendigo has a good record. In four years’ time 106,476 tons of quartz was crushed for a yield of 52,9550 z. Bdwt. of gold, and £105,875 paid in dividends. The capital called up was £2,250, or Is per share. " The recent fire at Coolgardie will have the effect of speeding on - the exodus of population from that township to Kalgoorlie—in like manner to what occurred at the ‘ Barrier Ranges ’ in the early days, when Silverton, .the first township, was entirely superseded by Broken Hill. ' - The Bendigo gold yield for September slows a gratifying increase over the yield for September last year. Mr Berry’s figures are:—September, 1894 15,0430 z. 19dwt. 18gr.; 1895, 19,0950 z. 15dwt. Igr.; increase for 1895, 4,0510 z. 7gr. There is great excitement at Forbes N.S.W., owing to rich gold .having been struck near the old South lead. The locality was one of ,4he richest gold-fields in New South Wales. The total West Australian .gold yield for September is 18,241 oz. va! ued at £69,330. ; Of this »,6600z. came from Coolgardie, and 5,9540 z. from the Murchison. The monthfy gold returns in Western Australia ' how no improvement, and if anything they are on the down grade. The output of the Johannesburg gold mines for the month of August has been offioially returned at 203,573 ounces, comparing whh 174.9770 z. for August 1894, and 136,069 >z.. for August 1893. The total for tho first eight months of ;he .present year i51,516,5730z., 1,516,5730 z., against 1,316,660 >z. for the corresponding period of 1894. The exports from the Cape were declared at.1,506,0290z., of the value , of £5.172,551. On the other hand, no less than 3,192,3000 sovereigns have been imported from tho London Mint. At Kalgoorlie in one day last week 66 leases were taken up at the warden’s office, the receipts being £BSO for the day. The takings are enormous, and it is proposed to open the office at night to enable lease money to be paid. A sensation has been created by a splendid yield of 908 oz. of gold from 15 tons at the Mount Drysdale mine, near Cobar. This property has already given some remarkable returns;, but none so exceptionally rich as this.
