WAIORONGOMAI.

(From our own Correspondent).

The plain and fancy dress social held on Friday night id the school-room proved an immense success; There was a large-attendance, quite a number from Te Aroha and Gordon Settlement being present. The room was. decorated with nikau and ferns, and presented quite a pretty appearance. The music was iu the hands of Mr A Everitt 1 (violin) and Mr J. Young (ac'cordeon), and was all that could be desired. Messrs T. Young and 0. McLeod performedjthe duties of M.C’s. most efficiently. Dancing, commenced abou t half-past eight and Was kept .up till half-past eleven when a halt was made for refreshments. After justice had beep, done to the good things provided, dancing- was resumed and kept up with groat spirit till halLpast two, when the - company dispersed, evidently well pleased with the even ’ ing’a amusement. . _ There was a heavy storm of wind and rain here on Thursday, but no da lage is reported. „ ■. Mining is steadily progressing on th > hill and a winze is being sunk in the low level of the New Find. I understand it is the intention of the -ma iager to sink about 100 ft., iu order to thoroughly test the grouud, and it is hoped he will ‘ strike it rich.’

Several men are at work under Mr F. Pavitt’s direction,- cutting suv.ey lines, laying out boundaries, etc.
