The massing of trOops and warships has, says the paper, a deep significance., Those ships and men will not be directed against Japan unless Japan invites them. Russia is evidently preparing for an extended occupancy of territory, which is necessary for the campletion of her railway. The journal adds that Japan has opened .the oyster, and Russia will not be content with the shell.

Inquiry has proved that 140 Chinese took part ip the Kucbeng massacre, that 53 armed men went from Whattng with- the intention of killing the missionaries, and that of that number 43 have already been found guilty and seven have been beheaded. • , - i
