THAMES-TE AROHA RAILWAY.
Wellington, Saturday. Telegrams -have been- received by Messrs W. Kelly and McGowan expressing the dissatisfaction of tho Thames and surrounding ; districts because no provision has, been ma ie upon tho Estimates for completing the Thames-Te Aroha railway: The telegraphs suggested that endeavours should be mado. to' got a sum placed ou the Supplblhontary Estimates for the purpose. Tho members above mentioned havo interviewed Ministers and. laid tlieir case before them,' and have, I understand, received an assurance that although no special vote will be made this year the work will be steadily proceeded with. The necessary money will de provided out of the general vote for railways.-: . Thames, Saturday.
The following telegram was received hero to-day from Mr -McGowan, M.H. 8.,, in reply to the one sent him yester‘day re urging the -Government to complete the railway between Paeroa aud tho Thames : —“Have Ministers’ written statements that expenditure -this year will be equal, if not greater;/ than last year on the railway.” Mr Dunlop, County Chairman, has also received the following telegram from Mr Kelly, M.H E.: —“ Api doing all l can with others to got something for the Thames end of the railway.”
Iu reference to the proposition made by Mr A. D. Douglas to the Government on behalf of a sj-udicate in regal'd to tho cons'ruction of a railway from PaerOa, Mr Douglas has received a telegram Lora. the tHfra, W. Me ullough informing him' that the Hon. tho Premier was favourable to the schomo, and desired -to have definite proposals submitted.
