A Wellington telegram says : E. M. Smith, w‘th his usual enthusiasm as far as local industries are concerned, has lately been bestiring himself to see what may be done by the Government to assist in converting an alleged discovery of roc k salt in the vicinify of Raglan into a - profitable industry. Mr McLean, who claims to have made the discovery, has applied to the Government for a bonus for the eneburagement of the industry, or for rights over the ground. If it proves to be Grown land he wants a lease, and if Native land he desires assistance in acquiring ,it. The Minister for Lands has the matter under con sideration. •
