BOATING ACCIDENT.
• TWO MEN 1 DKOWNED.
Invercargill, Sunday. ■ On Sunday, the 15th inst., three miners left Cromarty,'Preservation Inlet, ior Coal Island, which lies in the entrance. The boat was small, and a Swede, who was one of the party, took a turn of the sheet round his leg, whan a puff ; of wind came and the boat filled. All | the men lasted for a good while in the j water, but became exhausted by the continual rolling of the boat. The first fo sink was Thomas Leslie, aged 55, long a resident in Stewart Island, and said to have a brother in Wellington. John’Koeller Stow was also j drowned; He was a Swede, aged! about 34. A boat was put off, and j rescued John. Thomson, the third man. Up to the Hinemoa’s leaving the Inlet : neither body had been found. The miners there run great risks, and the parties being small, they can handle | only very frail crafts, such, as they can carry to and from the water. |
