PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING, The ordinary monthly meeting of the Piako County Council was held in the Council Chambers, Momusvrlle, on Friday, the 13th inst. • Present: Crs Chepmell (chairman), Herries, Gavin, Allen, Hunt, Harrison, and Hodgson The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Or W. P. Chepmell, on behalf of the Council, welcomed Mr W. S • Allen, the newly-elected member for the Waitoa Riding. Feeling reference was made by the Chairman to the uaexpoctod death of the late Or Seddon, and a letter of sympathy and condolence was ordered to be sent to Mrs Seddon. The following correspondence was real and attended to.' Mr E. Y. Cox, Shaftesbury, re road work. V Mr Roach, Shaftesbury, re opening drains’ 3 ® To the Hon. A. J. Cadman, re dispute between the Piako and Waikato Councils. From Hon Cadman, stating the matter would bo considered, and had been sent on to the Premier for his consideration. .. 1 “

Waiorongomai Tramway. —J. A. Miller, on behalf of the new Company at Waiorongomai, re the leasing of the Waiorongomai Tramway and asking the Council not to part with, the control of the tramway. To J. A. Miller, stating that the Tramway was at present leased to Mr Mr Geo! Taylor and that his term would expire shortly. Resolved that Mr Geo. Taylor have the 6 months rent of Tramway remitted. i
Cr Gavin reported, re the Waiorongomai Tramway, and estimated the cost of necessary repairs £268, and suggested that the Council should apply to Government for the promised giant. Resolved thut the report be adopted and Cr Gavin thanked for his report Resolved that a new bridge he built on the Upper Track, at the estimated cost of £l3.
From Clark Te Aroha Town Board, asking for £6O promised the Board for maintenance of . the Te ArohaLichfield road, consideration deferred till next meeting, On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr Harrison, it was resolved that considering .the inconvenience and probable expence to the Council -caused by the delay in the completion of certain plans by the late engineer, if the same are not completed by next meeting the Council will have to consider what steps. will be taken to deal with the matter. Northcrof’s Road.— Resolved that two copies of the plan of proposed road be made, and kept in Mr Gilchrist’s office for inspection. Thompson’s Track. Cr Herries asked the Council to write the Hon Cndman on the question of Thompson’s tiack, urging him to make the same into a coach road.
Cr Herries proposed, and Cr Hodgson seconded, thafegtjjft Clerk be instructed to writa.Mp Hon Cadman urging him to have a sufficient sum placed upon the estimates to have Thompson’s track formedjjinto 'a coach road. Carried. N
Te Aroha-Licthfield Road. Cr Herries moved, and Cr Hunt seconded; that tenders be called that this road be formed and -drains cleared, out . for about a mile from the southern boundary of the Wairakau estate. - .
Or Gavin again drew attention to tile state of that portion of the Te Aroha - Lichfield road between the Waiorongouiai road and the Wairakau gate. He moved that the Foreman of Works be asked to prepare an estimate and specification for this work, to be laid before the next meeting of' the Council, this was seconded by Cr Hodgson and carried. The Clerk was instructed to write to the Railway Department complaining of the damage to this road as done by them and asking for a grant of £3O towards repairs. The Foremen of Works reports were received and instructions given them to do the necessary works suggested, also to put the approaches to the Piako bridge in order. Also approach to the Te Aroha railway bridge. Cr Hodgson referred to the need of formation on the Thames - Waikato road near Waihou sale yards. Resolved that the Forman of Works be instructed to prepare specifications for next meeting. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr Hudgon, the Clerk was instructed, to write to the Railway Department asking them to widen the approach to Te Aroha Railway Bridge. Waikato County v. Piako County. - Cr Chopmell read a statement of the grounds on which the Council based its reason for appeal against the decision of the Supreme Court in the recent disputed case between the Waikato and Piako Councils over the costs, of admistrasion of the Alcholic Liquor Sale Control Act. Resolved that Mr Dyer bo instructed to take the necessary steps to carry the case to the Court of Appeal. The Council to be guaranteed against al 1 loss.
