Wellington, Monday. ‘ In the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court .this afternoon, F. H. Von Schooneberg appeared on information, charged with libelling E. • Jellicoe, solicitor, in a letter written to Mrs Chemis. Defendant who has appeared both in the Supreme and Magistrate’s Court lately, as interpreter in various cases brought by Knigge, restaurant-keeper versus bis wife, all of which ended in a fiasco, asked for a remand as he could not get a solicitor to act for .him. He made a rambling statement accusing’•persona of being desirous to injure him, and said that he had been, twice accused of sbootmg persons wlfilev aE the while lie was trying to bring “ Jack the Bipper,” whom he knew all about, to justice. He gave a description of ‘the Bipper;’ who, he said, had. been stopping in his house in ■ Timaru for some time. ‘ Jack's ’ redlvname was Karl Kappe. He was an aiiiisfc, * a spoilt artist, - of no means and no trade, a countryman of his, and Was in addition a cannibal. Defendant said he had seen him take pieces out of the bodies of his victims and eat them 1 when hejwas hungry.’ At this stage Mr Martin decided to adjourn the libel .case until Friday, and in the meantime Schoeneherg (agreed to substantiate charges re Bipper in private to the magistrate.
