FOUND DEAD IN A DRAIN, Kihikihi, Wednesday. Mrs Jane White, wife of Arthur White, formerly of Te Awamutu, but for: the; last two years a resident of 'Kihikihi,' was this morning found ;by a boy named Sibley dead in a drain close to the-township,- The woman was old and feeble, nearsighted, and of weak ; rpind.-- She was in the habit of frequently leaving her home and wandering away by herself. _ The body was removed by Constable Carroll to her husbaud’sreeidenceto await a cotoner’s inquest. • FATAL ‘ACCIDENT'iN TAURANGA HARBOUR Tauranga, Thursday. To- night about seven o’clock,. as the Eleanor cutter was coming up the harbour, and when opposite the town’ furling sails, a young man, about 20 years, a sailor, was knocked overboard, and was not seen afterwards. He was a Swede by birth, named Lawson. The police are out dragging for the body. • „
THE OUTBREAK OF ANTHRAX .Wellington, Thursday.^ ; The lands in the occupation of Mr George Watts, situated between Hautapu and Cambridge, are declared infected owing to the prevalence of anthrax, and. no stock, carcase, or any portion thereof, or any fodder or fittings, etc.,, shall be removed except under direction of the Inspector of Stock. THE ANTI-CHINESE LEAGUE Wellington, Thursday: Anti-Chinese League a letter was read from the Premier expressing sympathy with the movement,, but- he regretted that owing to the pressure of politietal business he could not accepr, the position of patron. Members of the League spoke of the necessity .of more* sing the.duty on furniture, and also of imposing a poll tax of £IOO on Chinese. Sir Robert Stout was elected president. The League propose to diseuss w.th European ruomoucs in the suburbs "he question of gr< wing vegetab’e* for the local markets.
