Emergencies, Platt, Patty. About 6 o’clock on Thursday evening a pair of runnaway horses, attached to a waggon caused a. mild sensation in Te Aroha. The horses and waggon belonged to Mr J. A. Cochrane, anrl were left standing outside the Rev Norrie’s in Kenrick Street, when from some unknown reason the animals took fright and bolted through the town round the block near the Public School, then stafted for the Railway bridge where; they wore, stopped. The horses escaped without injury, but the waggon was considerably smashed. Potuuately no one was hurt by the runnaways,. . At the meeting of tbe Te Aroha Y.P.S. C.E. held on Thursday last the voting for the election of President and Committee of the *Y.P.S.C.E. Union, Auckland, took place, much interest was manifested in the contest, The Society appointed Miss Morrison representative to the annual Convention to be held in Auckland early next month -v
In a letter to. tbeproprietors ,a>f the Wairarapa Daily Times Mr Jellicoe states that he hos successfully defended the following murder trials :—Smith and Harrison for the EketahuSa,’.murder • Finley, ley for the Tfollingtoh murder in 1892; Ali’idge, for the Pahiatua murder; Lizzie Price . for the Otaki nmrdor ; . and this yew Ni.-holson for a Wellington murder; and Somerville for the Masterton murder.” An exchange says'that the Daily Times should have headed the letter “To the .Criminal Classes.” and put “Advt.” at the foot of it!
