PARLIAMENTARY JOTTINGS

'Wellington, August 19. The Bank Committee sat on Saturday before and after noon. ’ Mr Bowen was elected chairman. The President and officers of the Bank handed the Committee a paper relating to the position of the Estates Company. It is probable that other names will be added to the Committee, and it will be made a secret one.

There is now on the order paper 23 bills, 20 notices of motion, and 100 questions. The treasurer hopes to reply to-morrow night in the financial debate. There is some dissatisfaction re the Bank Committee and it is rumoured that tho Colonial Bank may come into the arrangement before long. The Government appeal’ uncertain as to the result of the Committee’s work.

It is said the House will not rise till the first week in October.
