Burglary at Papakura Railway Station.
THE SAFE KIFLED.
Os Wednesday night or early Thursday morning the Papakura Kailway Station was broken into, and £3O taken from the safe. The probability is that the robbery was .effected in the early morning as the station clock was stopped at 2.30. The station-master, Mr Somerfield, locked up his office as usual, after placing the and books in the safe, and locked it up On returning to his du&pG'.iTfr&t'sdsty. morning he found the safe opened, and its contents in money abstracted. An examination of the safe showed how the operation had been effected. A hole had been bored through .the top of the safe, and a brass tube inserted, after which an explosive was used, and the top blown off. Owing to the distance of the station from other buildings, the explosion could be effected without alarming even the nearest resident. Chief Detective Grace went up by the first train from Auckland, to Papakura to investigate the matter, but it is not known what the results of his inquiries were. He considers, however, that the job has been effected as neatly as any safe robbery, which has come within his professional experience.
