TE AROHA FRUITGROWERS & THE TARIFF QUESTION
A meeting representing those interested in fruitgrowing in tho Upper Thames, district was held in the News office on Wednesday evening. Mr E. Y, Cox occupied the chair, and explained the object of the.. meeting was to consider the proposed Canadian and South ;Auatraliau treaty, with , reference to. the local fruit industry. Considerable discussion on the question followed, in which all present -joined in condemning tho treaty as against the. interests of fruitgrowers. It whs resolved to send the following wiro to the ’Hon A., J, Cadmail, member ,'for the district ' •. “ Hon, Cadraan, Wellington,—A meeting of To Aroha fruit grower a reject the proposed Sooth Australian treaty. Please proteat.—E. Y. Cox, Chairman.” I nreply to the above the following' wire was received : i “Wellington, Friday.—. Question; of tariff now under revision and will havAtb be.approved of by: Parliament .bflfpFe becbmiiig law, and it is our intention to meet the various industries in the. colony as much as possible.— A: J.
