COLONIAL TRADE WITH MANCHESTER. ' ' London, July 16. Sir W. Houldsworth, speaking on Mr Hotson’s paper, urged the meeting to l@se no time gin beginning direct trade, which, would be of immense importance to the North of England ; the speaker declared that the middle man in England was necessary. Manchester newspapers comment favourably s on Mr Hotson’s visit, and strongly encourage the opening of direct trade with Manchester. THE SUGAR CROPS. 1 ' Sydney, July 18. The frost and. drought are greatly damaging the sugar crops both in Queensland and New Wales, and the yields is said to be considerably below the average.
