The circumstances of the somewhat sudden .death of Mrs Mary O’Brien, wife of Mr John O’Brien, bootmaker, Manukaußoad, Parnell, were report ed ; .to Constable; Hutchison on Saturday morning, add as no doctor had attended her recently it was deeined necessary to hold an inquest. * Mrs O’Brien was apparently in her usual health when she returned to bed on Friday night, . hut when'.Mi* O’Brien woke at about half-past five o’clock on Saturday naorixing, he heard a gurgling noise in his wife’s throat, and asked her what was the matter. [Receiving no answer he. examined her more closely, and thought she was dying, • but: although he at once sent for Dr Marsack, who lives nearly opposite, Mi’s O’Brien expired before he arrived, An inquest was held in the afternoon, before Dr Philson, coroner, and a jury, of whom Mr Edwin Augar was foreman. Only two - witnesses, were examined—Mr the deceased’s husband, and Be. Marsack, who had made a postmortem examination. The- doctor’s testimony was that he found about a pint and a-half of blood in the socket of her brain, and that death was caused by apoplexy. The jury re- 5 turned a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony. The deceased, who was 62 years of age, was greatly respected, and her funeral, which took place yesterday in the Symond-street Cemetery, was very largely attended.
