TWO MEN MISSING Napier, Thursday. Two men named Neal and Hudson went out fishing in an open boat yesterday morning, but did not return at night with the other boats. As no signs of them could be seen this morning a steamer and several sailing boats went put, but up to the present no trace of the boat or the men has been found. >•-
THE WEATHER IN THE SOUTH Dunedin, Thursday. The weather was frosty all to-day and the snow which had not melted was trampled into ice As the frost increased in the evening it became absolutely dangerous to walk on the pavement, especially on the .hills, were on the shady side three or four inches of snow were lying. Christchurch, Thurday. The weather is bitterly cold. A strong SW. wind is blowing. Snow fell in the city this morning. THE HAWKE’S BAY POISONING CASE VERDICT OP ‘ NOT GUILTY.’ Napier, Thursday. After-two days’ trial John Hestall, charged with murdering nine employees of the Patoki Station, was found ‘Not Guilty.’ At last seision,' of the Supreme Court he was put on trial, but the jury were unable to agree. The yury tacked a rider to the verdict to the effect that poisons kept on stations should be more carefully garded under lock and key, and in charge of managers only. NEW ZEALAND SHEEP FOR SYDNEY.
