PIAKO COUNTY.

MONTHLY MEETING.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Piako County Council -was held in the Council Chambers,. Morrinsville, on Thursday, 13fch inst Cr Cnepmell (chairman), and a full Council present, except Cr Seddon. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and. confirmed Correspondence. -Inward and outward correspondence weie read and attended to. Re letter to Mining Inspector, asking the reason of the small amount of revenue brought to credit for past year. Mr Wilson refered the. Council to the Warden’s Clerk for information. Mr Jordan said the falling of revenue was due to the rents of last year not being collected, particularly some leases - held by H. H. Adams. The property was likely to be forfeited, -consequently he had not pressed for rents. Cr Gavin said the property was now under offer, for £4OOO and he did not think it right the Council .should be done bull of the revenue.

Decided to request -the Warden’s Clerk to press for rent. Tenders. —Rosolved that the action of the committee who de'alt with tenders at Te Aroha and Gordon Settlement be approved. The following tenders were received for repairs and maintenance of the Katikati track. Mackie,' repairs £37 10s, maintenance £2O, total £57 10s McLeod . and Latimer, repairs £26, • maintenance £25 10s, total £sl 10s (accepted); Hepburn arid Rowe, repairs £59 17s 6d, maintenance. £SO, total £lO9 17s 6d; Forsman, repairs £4O, maintenance £2l, total £6l; J. Johnson, repairs £3B 18s, maintenance £3O, total £6B 18s. ' . v ' YLeave of Absence.— Cr Seddon applied for leave of absence on account of sickness. Granted. \ s '

From G. Taylor, Waiorongomai, asking permission to plant trees oh the footpath near bis residence. Resolved that the request be not granted. From the clerk of Matamata Road Board, requesting the co-operation of the Council to construct a road, connecting Gerdon Settlement and Matamata.—Resolved that the clerk write to the Hon Cadman, concuring with the opinion of the Matamata Road Board, and asking him to assist in the matter. , • >.

From Mr Stark, • Walton, asking the Council to make a road to give him access to his property.—Resolved that if the applicant is prepared to pay cost of acquiring and formation the Council will' consider his application, v . - From McCabe and Party, asking for an extension of time to complete their contract on the Thames - Waikato Road. Granted two weeks from date.

’ From T. Dekenport, asking that his name be put upon the roll.—Resolved that Mr Pavitt value the property and the request be granted.

On the motion of the Chairman it was resolved to strike: 1. A general rate of one half-penny per £1 upon the rateable value of the rateable properperties in the Ridings of Te Aroha, Waitoa, Paretere, Y Taotaoroa, and. Matamata. 2. A separate rate of one farthing per £1 upon the rateable values of the rateable properties in the Riding of Te Aroha. - • Y These rates are to be made for the year commencing on the Ist day of April, 1895, and ending on the 31st day of March, 1896.. , Each of the said Rates will be payable in one sum to the undersigned at .the County office, Morrinsville, on the. 20th day of July, 1895. . ■ - The following applications were received for the position of Foremen- of Works for the Northern District, which includes.—G. Watfcamj Cambridge ; Mv Cronin (horse only), Te Ai’oha; T. Balton, Waharoa ; A. Bossons, Te Aroha; W. Nabbs, Te Awamutu ;E. Voicey, Waihou; N. Baskett, Waiorongomai; P, Quinn, Waiorongomai; W. Vickers, Hamilton; E. Adolph, Waihou ; M. Rohen, Morrinsville ;R. Parr, Waihou; R. Coleman, Cambridge, Chairman moved ; and Or Hodgson seconded that a man with horse and dray be appointed to the Northern District. . Ayes, Crs Brown, Hodgson, Hunt and Larney. . Perritt, Waharoa.; George Floyd, Walton,; W. Nabbs, Te Awamutu ; G. Mahood, Lichfield .

seconded by the Chairman, George Mahood was appointed Foreman of Works for the southern division of the County* , . Resolved that the Clerk be authorised to provide the necessary tools for the Foremen of Works.

Resolvod that the Engineer be instructed to show the Foreman of Works for the northern district over the roads and start him at work.
