WAIHI RACES.
The Waihi Racing Club held their annual race meeting on Saturday last. The weather was all that could, be desired, and long before the time fixed for the first evont, people were to be seen coming in from all directions, the crowd of spectators being undoubtedly the largest over seen at .Waihi. The recent heavy rains somewhat spoilt the course, and proved disagreeable to the riders, several of whom had nasty spills, but not of a serious nature. The fields were got away well together, and’several exciting finishes were witnessed. The various events resulted as follows : Maiden Prate. — Economy, 1; Ika, 2 ; Sterling, 3. Won by three lengths. Handicap Hurdles. —Tiki Queen, 1; Fencourt, 2 ; Kimberly, 3. Won by two lengths. ~ Miners’ Plate. — St. Mary, 1 ; Economy, 2 ; Sunflower, 3. Won by a length. Waihi Cup. —Cleopatra, 1; Mavourneen, 2; Try Fluke, 3. Won by a length. Pony Bace. —Honour Bright, 1 ; Kotero, 2 ; Lady Grippe, 3. . Won by a neck. ' /' Publicans Purse.-—St. Mary, 1 ; Mavourneen, 2 ; Cleopatra, 3. Won by half-a-length. Forced Handicap.— St. Mary, 1'; Honour Bright, 2. Won easily. Economy and Sterling fell.
