TE AROHA BAND OF HOPE.

Titb usual monthly meeting of the above society took place in the Town Hall on Monday evening last, and was well attended, the hall being crowded to the door by adults and children, the last of which formed the biggest portion of 'the .'audience; showing the interest taken in the temperance movement by/ the • generation. The Rev .F. Gv Evans, President, occupied the! chair, arid delivered a very interesting and instructive address, which was. listened to attentively by those present. After the singing of one of Hoyles’ temperance hymns the following' programme was gone through! in a way which done credit to the performers violin and piano, ‘ Moonlight on the Lake,’ Misses Stanley and Johnson; song, Master J. Benny; recitation, Miss H. Morrison ; song, Master H. Bennett: recitation, Nellie Biggs ; song, Master J. Benny ; recitation, Miss Butcher; song, Mr Mclndoe ; duet, violin and jiiano, * The Ghimos ’ Misses Stanley and Johnson; recitation Master F. Oopoland. ' At the close of the programme the Chairman invited those present to sign the pledge, which resulted iri several young men signing. A meeting of the 'Band of Hope Committee was held.at the close, when various matters in connection with the movement were discussed. It was resolved that the monthly meetings be held in the Town Hall. Several of the. Committee were appointed to arrange the' programme for next I meeting. . . j
