THOMPSON’S TRACK

[to the Editor. )

Sir.—rl think the residents of Te Aroha ought to know that Thompson’s track is only going to be made for the present Bft. wide. This would be perfectly useless for the. district and is directly contrary to the promise of Mr Oadman. Mr J. Mills, who has known all along that it wa3 to be only Bft. informs me that it will afterwards be widened. If that is the case the Government are wasting public money, as everyone knows it is cheaper to make a road the full width you want at the first start off than to go back afterwards to widen it. I leave the supporters of the Government to get out of the dilemma, that either the Government are wasting public money, or else that Mr Oadman is not'J going to fulfil his promise to make a coach road to Tauranga. I think also that tho people of To Aroha should agitate to get the full width made at once, as everyone understood was to have been done.— l am, etc, W. H. Herries. (to the editor). Sir, —I think Mr Yoysey has done the proper thing in letting the public know how he has been treated—others have been treated as bad and worse. There is no doubt the whole thing has been worked by a few Government supporters at this end. Of course there had to he an engineer ; but bo knows which side his bread is buttered on ; should he want too much ox his own way he is soon wanted somewhere else. Just to show how one-sided this cooperative system has been worked, I will remind your readers that Mr Yoysey was objected to because he was working, but I can mention other men who were brought from work and put on ; even Yoysey’s mate was put on, who was asmuchin work as himself —the only difference is that Yoysey is not a Government supporter. I have no need to say any more : tho public must be well aware how the local residents have been refused work because they had a cow ora horse, while others of the ‘ right colour ’ could have any number and got work. Let me remind the men who have been bo unfairly treated that they-aviSl. have the satisfaction of knowing that.this injustice has helped to put a more honest Government in force, —I am, etc.,
