OHINEMURI COUNTY COUNCIL

Tiie usual monthly meeting of the Ohincmuvi County Council was held on Thursday last, the 7th inst., at which all the members were prosent except Crs Bowler and Edwards, the latter being absent at Tauranga attending the Bay of Plenty Licensing meeting.

It was resolved, to call for tenders for supplying and carting 500 yards of metal at Owharoa, and 200 ‘ yards of metal at Karangahake. Tenders are also to be called for tho completion of Lowrie’s road to the Cross battery, including bridges and corduroying; also tenders for work on the PaeroaWaitoa road drain ; continuation of the oontraot given the other day to D. McCarthy, of Waihou. The sum of £1445 . 16s 6d was received from the Treasury Department, being arreas of Gold Duty owing to the Council,. . . iy.

Tho resident* of Karangahake sent in a petition to the Council askiflg for a new tr.iffioi-hridge, the present one at Shepherd’s Ho;el being too narrow, too weak, and.inhiot a very safe. condition, Any day it might be carried away, and such a thing happening would be a great blow to the various mining properties who-are dependant on it for receiving machinery, supplies etc, Mr Marsland, an architect, lately arrived in Karangahake, had offered to draw up plans , and specifications free of charge for a bridge. His offer was accepted and he is to be requested to prepare plana and specifications for a new traffic bridge, capable of bearing a maximum weight of 7 tons, at Karangahake, cost to be about £3OO. A number of applications from Engineers was read, with regard to reporting on the.best method of supplying Paeroa with a water supply for domestic and motive power purposes. It was resolved to,-postpone; the consideration of the lettersuntil next meeting, when Or. Edwards would be present. < •
