OHINEMURI COUNTY COUNCIL
A special meeting of the above Council was held in the Council Chambers, Paeroa, on Thursday last, there being present: Crs Edwards (chairman), W. G. Nicholls, Cassrells, Nash, and Corbett, The business for which the meeting was called being the opening of tenders for works to be carried out in the County, viz : Contract No. 33, 1000yds rubble on Waitekauri lower road: N. Dickey, £112; E. Bein (accepted), £B6 8s; W. Moon, jr., £ll2 10s. No. 34, re-forming road on Earl’s Hill: W. McKenna, £34 10s; W. Corbett, £32 ; C. Kennedy, £23 8s ; E. T. Bein (accepted), £23. No. 35, formation of Esplanade : D.' McCaufield (accepted), £l4 10s; J. McGeehin, £22 ; D. Miller and T. Maiden, £ls 9s. No. 23, Netherton drains: D. McCarthy (accepted), £7O. No. 37, forming track at Karangahake, at per mile : H. Gallagher, £l4 13s 4d; E. T. Bein (accepted), £11; 0. Kennedy, £l4 10s • W. Neil, £l3 2s; H. Gordon, £36. Petition.— Cr Cassrells’ petition re the preservation of the Tarariki and Komata creeks for domestic purposes Paeroa. He asked the Councillors to sign the petition as Councillors, and stated that ,he had already received some 96 signatures.
# Cr Corbett stated that mining operations would in future be carried on in the vicinity of the Komata creek on a larger,scale than heretofore, and if the petition had been for the Tarariki erepk only he would have signed it, but as it is at present he could not see his way to do so.
The petition was not signed as desired by Or Corbett. In the absence of Mr N. Kenny, who is absent from the district owing to illness in the family, Mr J. S. Ingram was appointed to carry on the necessary office work. The meeting then dosed.
