KARANGAHAKE.
(From our own Correspondent). The Woodstock Battery was started on Monday last, and has been going steadily all week, in a way that promises to give every satisfaction to both the company and the builder, Mr H. H. Adams. Everything is working smoothly and well. The work of erecting a mill for the Talisman Company will soon be well in hand, as the necessary removal of earth preparatory to laying the foundation of the battery is well-nigh completed. In the Crown Company’s property the sinking of a shaft to open on the reef at a low level will soon be begun. The erection of the necessary pumping and winding gear is to be proceeded with as soon as plans are complete. Other mines on likely ore and fast making names for themselve are the Earl of Glasgow, the Bonanza, Imperial, and Wealth of Nations. The Imperial in particular seems to have a good future before it and is attracting some attention just now.
