HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY .

A meeting of the Committee of the above Society was held on Monday evening last, 18th inst. There were present: Messrs Strange (in the chair)> Hetherington, Bossons, Hansen, H* J. Hawkins, Hotchin, Borrie, Bowleg Mclndoe, McKenzie, G. Taylor, and Mrs Blencowe.

The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed The Secretary reported that he had interviewed Mr Gallagher re Pound, and that that gentleman had kindly consented to allow the Society to use the Pound for show purposes. Letters were received from Mr H. E. Sharp, (consenting to act as judge)* Mr Buch, Government dairy expert (promising to be present to test milk), and from the secretary of the Waikato Society explanatory of their system of awarding special and other prizes. Mr Bowler was appointed to arrange matters in connection with dairy tests, jumping competition, etc. Considerable discussion, took place at this stage re holding Show in the Public Hall, the majority of * members present, expressing- an opinion that the Town Hall was too small. The Secretary was authorised to see if the present leasee intending enlarging or altering Town Hall. Mr Bowler gave notice of motion, that resolution in favour of Town Hall passed at previous meeting be rescinded in favour of Public Hall.

The matter of decorations was left in the hands of Mr Hetherington. Moved by Mr Hetherington, and seconded by Mr Bowler, that Mr Mclndoe be asked to assist Secretary on Show day. Carried. Resolved on the motion of Mr Hansen, seconded by Mr Mclndoe, that the Secretary write to Mrs Allen, of Annandale, asking her to act as judge of fancy work. Proposed by Mr Bowler, that Mr Faes’ prize be awarded for best collection of wild flowers by children, 12 and under, seconded by Mr Strange, and carried. In connection with the above Mr Hetherington offered 5s for second, and Mr Borrie 2s 6d for third prizes. Resolved that Secretary see Bandmaster re securing the services of Band on Show day. » * ” It was decided on the motion of Mr Bossons, seconded by Mr Strange, that Show Committee try and get up a Promenade Concert for the evening of Show day. The meeting then closed.
