Mining matters in this district are looking up just at present. The purchase of the late Mr Pepper’s battery by Mr McDonnell seemed to thrownew life into the place, the battery and surroundings are to be thoroughly overhauled, and when finished will be able to put throught a large amount of stuff. Ground that has been lying idle in this district for years is being once more taken up, and some of which is panning out very well. Like other places a revival seems to have set in as far as mining is connected.
Mr E. J. Dunn, F.G.S., the eminent Yictorian Geologist, who recently visited Coromandel with the object of inspecting some of the mining properties in that district on behalf of an Auckland syndicate, has returned from Australia by the Mararoa for the purpose of inspecting the Earl of Glasgow Gold Mining Company’s property at Karangahake, on behalf of certain capitalists. This property is noted as occupying a first-class position, and has yielded good returns. We understand Mr Dunn is about to make a thorough inspection of the Upper Thames mining district,
