He estimated that the damage done yearly by these pests in New , South Wales . amounted ; to: £IOO,OOO. The discussion which took place on the paper showed that there was urgent necessity, of dealing with the matter thoroughly without delay, and it was resolved to ask the Minister to establish an entomological labatory for the study and treatment of the posts. At the Mayor’s luncheon the Commissioner of Customs said the Government was unpopular because of its retrenchment and taxation propos ils. The retrenchment in the different Go verrment departments already repre sented a total saving of L 2,000,009 and the Ministry Would continue to retrench, where it would benefit the community without injuring any particular class.
