GOLD DISCOVERIES NORTH OF AUCLAND
Prom time to time for some years past discoveries of quartz reefs north of Auckland have been reported, and. several of those proved auriferous. However, the tests and assays were not of a sufficiently encouraging nature to warrant the expenditure of large sums on plant necessary for their development. Amongst those which attracted atteiition was a quartz reef at Pukeatua, from which tests were made from time to time, and although results were not then suffieienty rich te i iduce the owners to. proceed further, it is possible that with the improved method of gold saving now available the reefs may be profitably worked. During the years 1886 mid 1887 test were made by various experts. A ton treated at the Golden Crown battery,. Thames, by the ordinary process--vi yieHed edwtfofg o . Tests made by * Air Galbraith and Messrs Praser and bons gave as high as 9oz 19dwt gold; and loz 2dwt 2gr silver per ton, and two sample tested by Messrs Fraser ' for Kr T. Foley, Wade, in a ’ following, results-: — ssaj of black flinty quartz, 2oz Odwt 20grs bullion, value £3 14s assay grey mullock, loz ljfwt 6 fc r - buUion, value £l 2s 7M per%h.
