With the present issue of the Te Aroha and Ohinkmuri News our connection therewith ceases. Before, however, hattiling it over to our successor we desire to express our most sincere thanks for the very hearty, liberal, staunch, and continuous support which has been accorded to us during the past seven years. We can honestly say our aim and object has ever been to farther the best interests of the district by every means that lay in onr power ; and that our efforts have been appreciated we have every reason to believe, from the fact that though within the past three years no .less than three different newspapers were started in opposition to us, they one and all failed to make any headway whatever against, us, and died from starvation after struggling for periods varying from nine months in the first instance to about nine weeks with respect to the last. We take this as a most gratifying proof that the general public have been well satisfied with the manner in which we have at all times guarded au 1 endeavoured to further their interests and to encourage the progress of the district generally. It is witli feelings of regret that we now bid Farewell to those with whom we have been so long associated, and who have so loyally supported us—our subscribers, advertisers, and all our readers. And we may here state that the sole cause for our disposing of this journal is that Mr Ilott, the managing partner for StV.-ral years past, having accepted an appointment offered him on the New Zealand Tim.’*, necessitated a dissolution of partnership. We have thought it best to thus publicly state the real and only cause why the News has changed ban ;s. We firmly believe that brighter days are in s ore for Te Aroha, and that at. no no very distant date. Its natural facilities are immense. Surrounded by good agricultural land, with large and valuable mineral deposits, an I as a sanatorium unrivalled iy any known thermal springs —Te Aroha must ami will yet com* prominently to the front. In again bidding our readers Farewell, we bespeak for our successor the same hearty support ami encouragement that has been so freely accorded to us.
