SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The usual monthly meeting of the Te Aroha School Committee Ay,as held on Monday evening .fast. (Present : Rev F: G. Evnn£ (chairman); MessfS" Ilott, Hetherington, Lavery, Heathcote, and Ahier. The minutes of the previous monthly meeting wero real and confirmed.

Correspondence ; Various letters and telegrams were read relating to the appointment of Mr Oldham, late of the Waiokarakft (Thames) School, vice Miss Mould, removed to Auckland, as assistant teacher till end of year, he, Mr Oldham, desiring a change inland for the benefit of his health. Also correspondence relating to the removal of Mr Simmonds to Hokianga, and appointment of Miss Coad in his stead.

Attendance : Tin monthly showed the number of scholars on the Roll for June to be 175 ; average attendance 130.4. The midwinter holidays lasted from June 30t!i to July sth. The return for the past quarter, ending June 30th, showed that the number on the roll at the end of the previous quarter was 192. The largest attendance on any half day during the quarter was 165.

Standard Classes : The numbers shown in the various standards is as follows -

Class P-, 56 ; standard 1, 27 ; standard 2, 24 ; standard 3, 17; standard 4, 27 ; standard 5, 16 ; standard 6, 7 ; standard 7, 1. The number of boys on the roll is 97, girls 78.

.Inspector’s Report: Inspector. A irey’s. report wa's laid'on the table respecting the last examination held on May Ist': Briefly stated, the report was to the following effect: (1,) Organisation: Good. (2) Time-table :-Suitable. (3) Methods and quality of th.’ instruction: The school is being conducted in Avery satisfactory manner, (4) Order and discipline, and tone of the school with respect to diligence, alacrity, and obedience : Good. (5) Manners and good behaviour of the pupils : Very good. (6) State of. buildings, grounds and fences : Satisfactory. (7) Sufficiency of school accommodation : Satisfactory.

Report received, and the members appeared Well satisfied therewith. Visiting,Committee : The Chairman and iHr Heathcote were appointed Visiting Committee for the current month ; and Mr Heathcote was authorised to effect some slight repairs needed to some of the windows, make a ‘ locker ’ in porch for the Indian Clubs,' etc. Accounts : r J lie following accounts, were passed for payment : A. W. Ed-' wards itowelling), 8s 6d ; W. A. Prime (brushes), 8s 9d ; Mrs Erasmus (cleaning school, etc.), Ll 8s 4d ; J. O’Connor (cutting firewooJ), Bs. This was all the business.
